Megan Casey practises in criminal law and related areas across the full range of State and Commonwealth offences.  She regularly appears in jury trials, appeals, committals and summary hearings and teaches criminal practice and advocacy at the Leo Cussen Institute.  Megan has a particular aptitude for matters involving scientific and forensic experts given her background in science.

Qualifications: BSc (Hons), LLB (Hons), GDip Applied Finance & Investment (Securities Institute)

Megan was admitted to legal practice in 1999 and as a barrister in 2009.  She commenced her legal career at Arthur Robinson & Hedderwicks (now Allens Arthur Robinson) where she spent 5 years working across the intellectual property, litigation and commercial groups.  Since 2003, she has been practising exclusively in crime, working as a solicitor advocate in private practice (including in Dublin, Ireland) and as a managing lawyer for Victoria Legal Aid. Megan achieved accreditation through the Law Institute of Victoria as a Criminal Law Specialist in 2006. 

Megan maintains a pro bono practice and has an active interest in human rights, mental health issues and access to justice.  She also advises the Commonwealth Attorney-General's office on dual criminality/extradition matters.

In early 2012, Megan was one of 12 junior counsel selected to participate in the Trial Counsel Development Program.

She is a member of the Criminal Bar Association and is a director of the Ormond Ski Club.
