Professional Background
Prior to coming to the Bar, David worked as a solicitor advocate practising in criminal law. During this time, he worked in private practice at Greg Thomas Barrister and Solicitor, the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service (VALS) and Victoria Legal Aid.
As a solicitor, David routinely appeared throughout Victoria in plea hearings, sentence appeals, committals, contested hearings and bail applications in the Supreme, County and Magistrates’ Court.
He has previously had conduct of a broad range of summary and indictable matters including homicides, sexual offences and Commonwealth offences. He has prepared and instructed in a number of trials, pre-trial applications, complex committals and special hearings.
David is available to appear in post-sentence applications and reviews including supervision order proceedings and Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) hearings. His practice extends to those areas where crime intersects with the common law, including OHS and police torts.
David is reading with Simon Moglia and his senior mentor is Daniel Gurvich QC.
